Gone since 1994. Still talked about. The Hole in the Road was Sheffield's most distinctive landmark: a subterranean roundabout beneath the city centre, with escalators, shops and thousands of people passing through it every day. This is the view from above, as it was.

The print looks down on the roundabout from street level, sitting at the centre where it always did. The department store fills the left of the frame (Walsh's, House of Fraser, TJ Hughes, depending on when you knew it). The Midland Bank/Bankers Draft building anchors the right, with the full sweep of High Street stretching back toward 'Coles Corner' beyond. Every building in its place. Every line deliberate. Drawn in James's flat colour illustration style, bold lines and a Sheffield palette.
If you were there, you'll know exactly where you're standing. If you weren't, this is the Sheffield that people of a certain age still talk about whenever anyone mentions the city centre.

Care & Maintenance
Care instructions vary by product type and are listed on each product page.
For printed apparel:
- Machine wash at 30°C or below, inside out with similar colours
- Do not tumble dry — hang or lay flat to dry
- Do not iron directly on the print — iron inside out only
- Do not dry clean or bleach
For mugs and drinkware: dishwasher safe on the top rack, though hand washing will extend the life of the print.
For art prints and framed prints: keep out of direct sunlight to preserve colours. Wipe frames with a dry cloth only.
Size & Fit
Our t-shirts are a medium unisex fit on 100% organic ringspun combed cotton. Well-structured and clean — not boxy, not fitted. The fabric softens slightly after the first few washes.
True to size for a regular fit. Size up one for an oversized look.
